Kenya WaterRelief Project
JOURNEY: Kenya
PURPOSE: Community & Environment test
DURATION: Departs 26th June (5 weeks) and 3rd August (4 weeks)
Construct small-scale sand dams and water tanks with the local Akamba people.
Construct small-scale sand dams and water tanks with the local Akamba people. Our WaterRelief Project is in the dry, central rural Machakos district. You will work closely with the local community to build sand-dams and water tanks to aid the collection and supply of water.
In Kenya rising populations and the grip of the latest vicious drought has left many communities facing a desperate water shortage. Over 42 per cent of the population in sub-saharan Africa has no access to safe water and children often pay the highest price.
- Construct sand dams and water tanks to improve the communities access to safe drinking water
- Work together with the local Akamba people
- Spend time with children in the local schools
- Live and work in a rural African community
- An excellent opportunity to gain experience in overseas development work
- We also include a long weekend off on a 4x4 safari through one of Kenya's world famous Game Parks, Tsavo West.
You can also add-on the Kenya Explorer to this project
If you are 24 or over, then please look at our Sabbaticals project page for more departure dates.
