International Volunteer Day

This Saturday, 5th December, is International Volunteer Day – set up to give volunteer organizations and individual
volunteers the opportunity to concretely show their contributions to peace and
development.

As part of the celebration of the achievements and work of so many volunteers worldwide the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is inviting everyone to join their “Volunteering for our Planet” campaign. Together with the UN’s ‘Seal the Deal’ movement, the campaign aims to
gather the number of volunteering hours and report this at the United
Nations Climate Change Conference (7-18 December) in Copenhagen. By collating the number of volunteer hours thousands of people have given between 5th June, World Environment
Day and 5th December,
International Volunteer Day, Volunteering for our Planet hopes to send a message to the UN Climate Change Conference delegates that across the globe people are taking their chance to combat climate change.
