The Challenge

A unique sporting event in a unique location. The Galapagos Challenge is a three day event on the island of Santa Cruz in the heart of the Galapagos archipelago, including an olympic or sprint distance triathlon and a full road marathon. This Challenge Quest adventure invites you to take part in either of these events, or for the really hardy of you, take on both in consecutive days!

All logistics and transport of equipment will be handled by our team in country, you just need to do the training!

Your adventure

As well as the event, this adventure takes in some of the spectacular highlights of Ecuador. A trek to the base of the Cotopaxi volcano, visiting the indigenous market of Otavalo, a liveaboard cruise around the Galapagos islands in addition to the days you will be there for the event, and even the option to extend with an Amazon adventure.

For those of you looking to join as spectators without participating in an event, there will be options to explore the Island of Santa Cruz on race days if you would like.

Mon 3rd Oct Cotopaxi National Park Drive out to the Cotopaxi National Park.
Tue 4th Oct Cotopaxi and Otavalo Trek up to the volcano snowline with the option to bike back down. After lunch drive to the market town of Otavalo
Wed 5th Oct Otavalo Explore one of South America's largest traditional markets
Thu 6th Oct Galapagos Early flight out to the Galapagos for an afternoon briefing for competitors. Sleep in Puerto Ayora
Fri 7th Oct Galapagos The Galapagos Triathlon!
Sat 8th Oct Galapagos The Galapagos Marathon
9-12 Oct Galapagos Four day liveaboard cruise to some of the key islands of the Galapagos. Trekking, snorkelling, kayaking. Return to Quito on the 14th
Wed 12th Oct Quito Return to Quito and flight home, or sleep in Quito for those staying for the Amazon add on
Thu 13th Oct Amazon Flight out to the town of Coca, followed by a motorised dugout canoe ride down the Napo river to your jungle lodge.
Fri 14th Oct Amazon Full day to explore the Amazon on foot with local expert guides.
Sat 15th Oct Quito Return to Coca and fly to Quito, connecting with your international flight home.

Included in this adventure are all internal flights, accommodation, transfers, equipment logistics in country, excursions as detailed, meals whilst not in Quito or Puerto Ayora.

International flights and travel insurance are not included, as well as meals in cities.

The dates below indicate the dates you will need to arrive in country. Travel times from home may mean that your journey begins and ends on different dates. We will provide support and advice on international flight options.

Who is this trip for?

The Galapagos Challenge attracts competitors of all levels, from elite to enthusiast. Likewise, the itinerary is set up so that anyone coming just to spectate on race days will not feel like they are missing out.

Other activities during the itinerary are within the reach of anyone who is reasonably active.

More Information

For the races, competitors are expected to bring their own equipment (bike, wetsuit etc.). All transport costs in country are included in the cost of the adventure, and your bike and other kit will be securely stored during the periods when they will not be required.

If you would prefer not to worry about the hassle of transporting your bike from home, it is possible to hire a bicycle for the event. Please get in touch to enquire about options and prices.
